When is green nudging ethically permissible?

This review article provides a new perspective on the ethics of green nudging. We advance model for assessing ethical permissibility nudges (GNs). On this model, which normative guidance policymakers, GN is ethically permissible when intervention (1) efficacious, (2) cost-effective, and (3) advantages (i.e. reducing environmental harm) are not outweighed by countervailing costs/harms nudgees). While traditional objections to (paternalism, etc.) remain potential costs associated with GNs, any such must be weighed against injunction reduce harm third parties.
